April 12, 2012Opportunities to go greaseless
March 26, 2012Industries continue to look for ways to save costs and overall time consumed by maintenance. One area to look into is the different bushing/bearing and wear applications that require grease. Examples include pivot points and wear areas on machinery. Traditional materials can range from bronze to wood. Looking into composite materials to replace bronze is one opportunity to eliminate grease entirely while reducing undesired maintenance.
CIP Composite materials are engineered for the high load, slow operating applications. CIP Composites are self lubricated with low coefficient of friction in dry operating conditions; offering users an excellent alternative to bronze, and other materials. CIP Composites as Knife Handle Material (TeroTuf)
June 22, 2011CIP has been making sheet material for the custom knife makers around the country. Recognition is growing for TeroTuf which is polyester resin and polyester textile. Whereas micarta and g-10 materials are phenolic resin and cotton/linen textile. The difference: TeroTuf is easier to machine, doesn’t crack or fracture, does not swell with moisture, and is all-around tougher.
Knife maker Dan Keffeler (Seattle area) is customer maker that is using TeroTuf on his latest design that is nearly indestructible. Check out this video of the CPM 3v test featuring TeroTuf handle at approx. 5:50 into the testing.
